New Addition Project

 Team Approach

The criteria used to determine the scope of the project included:

  • Determining the desired number of classrooms needed.
  • Reviewed the existing building configuration.
  • Analyzed the building options.
  • Compared the various building options vs. the cost of construction.

Curriculum and Construction Priorities

We have had curriculum and instruction building goals for some time and the increase in Kindergarten enrollment provided the catalyst to address the needs. The building program advances our vision of developing STM into a School of the Future through:

  • A Clear Vision
  • Curriculum and Program Alignment
  • Assessment and Instructional Support
  • A School and Community Partnership

A Primary Learning Focus

The Primary learning focus for the new addition will be:

  • Kindergarten through grade 2 alignment
  • A Kindergarten through grade 2 computer lab
  • Aligning instructional support with the classroom program

Improvements for Other Programs

In addition to providing for our Primary Learning Focus, the building project will improve our Health, Math II, Spanish and Science Programs:

  • All programs in an appropriate classroom space
  • Opening the Science Lab for easier access and greater use
  • An increased focus on Science

Proposed Main Floor Addition

Proposed Lower Level

At this time we are recommending that the space remain unfinished so that it gives the Parish and School the opportunity to create a large room for many uses. Because there is separate access without going through the school, we can close off the school building for Parish access at any time.

Proposed Main Floor Addition

  • (1) Kindergarten Classroom
  • (1) First Grade Classroom
  • (4) Second Grade classrooms
  • Music Classroom
  • Technology Lab

Proposed 2nd Floor

The proposed 2nd floor is to be used for possible future expansion. The Building Committee believes that by constructing the addition to the building to include the possibility for future expansion, it gives the Parish a great deal of flexibility for any future expansion of the school.

 Construction Costs

  • Project start date is late August 2009
  • Start date is dictated by the success of obtaining zoning approval, which is a 3 meeting process over the next 3 months
  • Once started, our goal is to have the addition completed by the end of 2009
  • Construction costs will be approximately $3.2 million dollars and will include the School Addition and Church Renovations
