Students learn to develop a love and appreciation for God’s goodness. Children learn about and participate in activities related to the liturgical year.
Reading skills are fostered by encouraging students to develop an interest in literature and a desire to read.
The aim of the language arts curriculum is to recognize letters and to practice phonemic awareness.
Students learn to count, to recognize numbers, and to compare sizes, shapes, and patterns. Students learn how to use numbers through authentic activities.
Students learn how to observe and recognize measurable changes in living things.
Students learn to recognize baby animals within the environment and to identify their common needs.
Some special events occur during a student’s kindergarten year. They include a prayer service encouraging students to express love of Jesus through prayer and song. Students also participate in many activities celebrating the 100th day of school. They grow plants for Mother’s Day to give as gifts of gratitude for everything their mothers do for them. In addition, students visit DeSales University to see a children’s play.
Teachers use electronic whiteboards and multimedia projectors to introduce and review math concepts as a means to involve students in the learning process. Students use a computer-based program, called Imagination Station, which assists them in developing reading skills through individualized instruction. Teachers also use Discovery Education United Streaming on-line video clips to introduce and develop understanding of concepts in all subject areas.
